BLADEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK

Join Bladen Community College as it observes National Library Week next week, April 7- 13, 2019,by celebrating the contributions of our own “state of the art” library on its campus. First designated in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate. National Library Week is an exciting opportunity for libraries of all types to raise awareness of their value and impact in their communities.
This year’s theme, Libraries = Strong Communities, illustrates how today’s libraries are at the heart of our communities, towns, schools and campuses, providing critical resources, programs and expertise. They also provide a public space where all community members, regardless of age, culture or income level, can come together to connect and learn.
Sherwin Rice, Director of Student Resource Center, encourages “ Everyone is invited to our open house on Monday, April 8th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm to kick off this special week. This event will allow us to showcase the many offerings of our library. In addition to our print collection, community members will have the opportunity view our electronic resources-NCLIVE, Ebooks, Films on Demand, to name a few. Cosmetology students will display their Skills USA award winning entries at the open house and continuing education will have an exhibit of painted canvases. Also, there will be hands on roundtable activities. “
BCC’s Library is open to the public and any Bladen County resident over 16 years of age can obtain a library card. BCC Library staff also partners with other civic and service organizations to actively engage the people they serve, always striving to make sure their community’s needs are being met. BCC encourages the public to use our library.

BCC to host Administrative Professionals Day

Bladen Community College’s Continuing Education Department will host an Administrative Professionals Day Luncheon on Wednesday, April 24, at 12 noon in the college auditorium.  This event gives employers throughout the county a great opportunity to show their appreciation to their administrative professionals—assistants, receptionists, secretaries and other office professionals—by inviting them to this special event in their honor.  The program is open to supervisors as well.

“The administrative staff of any organization is an indispensable part of the everyday operation of the entity, says BCC Continuing Education Vice President Sondra Guyton.  “This event gives those of us who so heavily depend on the support and loyalty of our administrative personnel an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ in a very special way,” added Guyton.

In addition to a delicious lunch and networking, Dr. Antonia Beatty, Assistant Superintendent of Bladen County Schools, will speak on the importance of customer service in the workplace.  Dr. Beatty is a native of Bladen County.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Fayetteville State University and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.  Dr. Beatty earned a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University and has over 20 years experience in Bladen County Schools as a teacher, school administrator, and district office administrator.

Reservations are required and the cost is $20 per person.  Reservations and additional information may be obtained by calling Tracy Smith at 910.879.5577, or by email tsmith@bladencc.edu.
